Portfolio of Independent Work

Projects completed through other agencies are briefly listed at the bottom of the Resume page. These portfolio works are also available as a Gallery.

Taxes Incorporated [2009]

This tax related web site is currently in development. I have copied portions of the site and re-branded my portfolio copy to avoid publishing features of the site that have not been completed yet. The purpose of this piece is to show my most recent completely independent project from creative to front- and back-end development. At the point where the site is ready to be publicized, I will add additional details on all the aspects that are contained within the site.

PocketPC Pathways [2004]

This web site is absolutely my earliest extensive accomplishment. Created in 2004, it shows the extent of my capability so many years ago. While this site is nothing compared to a site I would construct currently, it still holds its own having a custom written blog, forum and optimized search feature. Behind the scenes is a full administration panel with more than a dozen management options. I learned a lot from this and have more recently been building a complete content management system in PHP/MySQL. The entire site can be controlled through the administration panel. Written in Perl, this site really showed me what server-side scripting is capable of and I soon began exploring PHP and MySQL. The site was also featured in articles and reports in two high schools.

iConstituent [2008]

As a demonstration of my abilities prior to the summer of 2008, iConstituent asked me to produce a congressman web template. While they were pleased with my work, I ultimately chose a different offer for my summer trip. This design originally included an actual congressman with real photo. After its purpose was served, I replaced the photo and general header with my own information.

tradenSTUFF [2008]

Started during 2008 as a freelance project, tradenSTUFF is a web site to facilitate sales for my client's fly fishing business. Unfortunately, due to poor economy, the project has been placed on hold. It is also purely developmental, but with matured functionality, allowing customers to search the catalog on complex criteria. Shown here is the main template used with a display of items for sale. Also included in the site is a large photo gallery and blog for discussing fishing events. The site is based on the large content management system that I have built from the ground up along with the custom inventory component.

Gift Pathways [2007]

Literally only a month before Christmas 2007, I noticed uncertainty on what members of my extended family were wishing for. Seeing a need, I immediately began building a site which I had named Gift Pathways, in lieu of my earlier site PocketPC Pathways. Within a week, I had a working site that could be used, in a beta sense of course. As time went by, I fixed some issues and added a lot of new functionality, including a shopping list generator and personal messaging. By word of mouth, the site has grown, but still lacks broad adoption. At a minimum, it was a great chance to build a holiday related site and is still used by my family and other friends. I have considered creating alternate templates for birthdays and other events but have yet to pursue such activity.

Trinity United Church of Christ [2008]

Built over the spring 2008 semester, this Trinity United Church of Christ web site shown here is my most elaborate accomplishment--to build a complete content management system. Since launching the site, I have continued expanding and improving the system to create a unique system that can be the basis for professional and personal projects alike. The system includes all the key features users would want in a web site including photo galleries, blogs, user management and traffic tracking among many other features. The administration panel is available for demonstration upon request.

Young Parents Network [2008]

In Graphic Design II at my college, I was assigned to make a promotion piece for our class client, the Young Parents Network. I created two color schemes to provide more flexibility to the client. The project was intended for the class only and, therefore, is simply a visual template. It is not setup and run by a content management system. The purpose of showing it is for another example of my creative design and web development abilities.

Mt. Mercy Quiz Bowl [2007]

During my membership as Communications Director in the Mount Mercy College Quiz Bowl, I built a web site to track membership, meetings and points earned. The site was used extensively during my participation and served a great purpose for helping document the club's progress.

Blackberry Data Network [2006]

Another college project, this time for Graphic Design I, Blackberry Data Network involved creating a logo with three letters followed by a web site branded by the logo. My intention was to create a cell phone company selling phones, plans and detailing their customer service. Again, this site is purely shown for design abilities but does have several pages linked from the navigation bar.
